| A show with a place in theatrical history. Like it or loathe it - there’s no denying it. There was nothing before quite like it and in some respects there has been nothing quite the same since. For the British musical theatre it would become the first ‘dance’ musical. The artistic collaboration of Andrew Lloyd Webber, Cameron Mackintosh, Trevor Nunn and notably Gillian Lynne would go on to create an iconic piece of theatre that would be seen by millions around the world, revolutionise the way musicals were promoted and ultimately change the way future generations of musical theatre performers were trained. You could no longer be a singer or an actor or a dancer - you had to be able to do it all to a level never seen before in performance and the UK triple threat performer was born. “An energy we could call our own”. That is what the show’s legendary original associate director and choreographer called what they had created in her original programme note. It’s with incredible excitement that I write this as we begin our own journey to create a production of “CATS” that we will call our own with the incredible Limelight Productions. For many years now the Limelight Company has firmly established it’s reputation as being a fresh and dynamic company not afraid to embark upon creative and ambitious musical theatre challenges. “CATS” provides this incredible company with another opportunity to showcase a wealth of talent whilst making their own mark on this musical theatre masterpiece. |
