As there are in excess of 35+ named characters in “CATS” the audition process will perhaps be different from what people have experienced before. Firstly we will be looking to create a dynamic company of actors, singers and dancers that will be able to be trained to deliver the show in character, as cats in an almost constant two hour intensive performance piece. We will need to see everyone move and sing in order to be considered for the company.
From this company we will consider whether those selected are better suited to character parts who perhaps don’t dance as much (Bustopher, Gus) to lead featured vocalists (Grizabella, Griddlebone) to strong dance roles (Quaxo/Mistofelees, Victoria) and then those that have to do pretty much everything (Bombalurina, Demeter, Mungojerrie, Rumpleteaser).
As we don’t expect everyone considering audition to know the requirements of 35 + different cats we envisage the audition process providing the creative team with enough material to allow us to ‘match’ the right performers to the right roles.
Pardoning the pun – this will be no ‘copycat’ production – the show will feature new direction, choreography and set/costume design. Don’t be immediately put off by the apparent level of movement and dance as there is much more to the show than just that. There are a wide range of individual cats characters in the show, some who dance more than others but others that sing more or portray quite complex and emotional roles where strong actors, both male & female will be required. Prior to the audition weekend, there will be two workshops – everyone intending to audition is strongly encouraged to attend BOTH workshops.
Auditions will be held at the Royal British Legion, New Row, Dunfermline during the weekend of 16th & 17th March 2019 from 9am until 5pm.
Ensemble / Dance Audition timings are to be confirmed but will also be during these two days.
